About
Silver Surf NZ is a New Zealand–based initiative focused on more thoughtful ways to care for spa pools and hot tubs. Our work is driven by a simple aim: to help people enjoy clean, comfortable spa water while reducing reliance on harsh chemical treatments where possible.
Where It Started
Silver Surf NZ was founded in Whāingaroa (Raglan) by Scott Rabone. With a background in engineering and design, and many years spent in natural water environments, Scott developed a strong appreciation for the difference between untreated natural water and heavily processed water systems.
Regular use and maintenance of spa pools highlighted how warm, enclosed water can amplify the effects of chemical treatment — from strong odours to skin and eye discomfort. Rather than dismissing conventional methods, Silver Surf NZ grew from a genuine curiosity about whether spa water could be managed in a gentler, more balanced way.

Our Approach to spa water
Spa pools and hot tubs are challenging environments. Warm temperatures, air bubbles, and frequent use all place extra demands on water treatment. Chlorine remains a widely used and effective tool, but it is not without drawbacks.
Silver Surf NZ explores complementary water treatment approaches designed specifically for heated spa systems. Our focus is on supporting hygiene and clarity while aiming to preserve water that feels more natural and comfortable for regular use.
We do not claim to replace regulated treatment standards. Instead, we look for practical ways to work alongside them.
About Colloidal Silver
Colloidal silver is water containing very small silver particles. Silver has been used for generations in water storage, filtration, and hygiene applications because of its ability to limit microbial growth. Today, silver is commonly found in spa filters, medical materials, and antimicrobial surfaces.
At Silver Surf NZ, colloidal silver is used for its material properties within spa pool water systems. It is not a medicine, a cure, or a stand-alone solution. It is one part of a broader, carefully considered approach to spa water management.
